Application and Function of MG Felts in Papermaking Machines
The MG felt is used on the MG cylinder, it’s a special top felt for press section. It’s mainly as the top paper making felt for support roll press. It play an important role for paper forming and drying process.
The MG felt is covered on the surface of the MG cylinder, it operates in wet and dry conditions, mainly to transfer paper, provide uniform drying pressure, and iron the surface of the paper to ensure uniform drying and smooth surface.
The MG felt has extremely strict performance requirements, requiring high temperature resistance, anti-aging, wear resistance, anti shedding, size stability, smooth surface, and good water filtration and breathability. These characteristics directly affect the quality of the final paper quality.
On paper machines, MG felt are usually located above the wet felt, partially in contact with the dryer. Their main functions include pick up paper, flattening the paper surface, and promoting drying. Therefore, they need to have the advantages of flatness, rigidity, good elasticity, wear resistance, and high temperature resistance.
Application of MG Cylinder
The full name of MG cylinder is machine glazed cylinder, it’s a special type of Yankee dryer cylinder. The MG cylinder is specific used for improving the paper surface glossiness. It’s mainly used for making tissue and toilet paper production.
The Making Process of Thin Paper
The thin paper has a low basis weight and a loose structure, and thin paper is generally not produced on conventional paper machines. There are various designs for thin paper machines, usually using a foudrinier forming section and Yankee dryer. The important feature of all thin paper machines is that the paper is supported throughout the forming, pressing, and drying processes, and no tension is applied until the drying is complete.
For thin paper with lower basis weight, sometimes pick up felt is used to transfer the paper sheets from the forming section to the press section (instead of vacuum suction press roll). The pick up felt is relatively impermeable and operates in a wet manner, with the felt tightly attached to the forming fabric and the paper sheets preferentially adhering to the felt.
The Yankee dryer is a large-diameter dryer used as the main drying device. The wet paper is tightly pressed onto the highly polished surface of the dryer and transferred to the dryer surface. The Yangkee cylinder is enclosed by a hood and can use high-speed air impact to increase its drying capacity. Some Yankee cylinders can provide single-sided polishing of paper sheets, also known as MG cylinder( machine glazed dryer cylinders). The MG cylinder can also be used for polishing cardboard and casting coating.
